World... meet Phil aka. 'Philthy' :-)

Phil is originally from Temecula, California and has made Salt Lake City his home for the past year. Before coming to the ‘big city!’ Phil had many accomplishments and interests that drew him to our exciting ‘hair world’ industry! Having a knack for fashion and style (and you have not seen style until you’ve been introduced to this fancy man) Phil attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where he polished his eye for beauty.

Following the big move to Salt Lake City, Phil contacted Lunatic Fringe, where he has called our salon home for the past nine months. His style in hair dressing focuses on fashion forward cutting and styling techniques, complimenting each with a customized color to show off each of his designs. Easily replicatable, Phil assures you the exact education you need to finish your hair at home. What does that all include? Proper Take Home product, the tools used, and the few step-by-steps it’ll take you to recreate! That simple! His professional approach to each guest assures a comfortable and memorable experience with us!

Lunatic Fringe has been hailed for the best shampoo and massage experience you’ll ever have! Having done his own washes, as well as being a fantastic team worker with other stylist’s washes, guests are raving about his mind blowing shampoos, yet again, taking your experience to the next level!

Phil’s passion for learning, education and overall guest experience behind the chair exceeds a lot of the average stylist graduating from hair school. His calm approach to the guest consultation has a genuine warmth that keeps his guests at ease while creating the desire and excitement to be hack in his hands in 4-6 weeks.

Artistic Team NAHA Shoot

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

When you look at any event that occurs around you – meeting someone new, driving to work, a leaf falling from a tree – you come to realize that all those occuring events have a story. A beginning, a peak of excitement. . .we’ll stop there, because we never want to see the end. What we focus on is the now. Lunatic Fringe has put together a group of individuals, all with one common story; to artistically show you, our guests, what Lunatic Fringe is capable of creating. From the beautiful imagery draping the interior of our salons, to the high energy hair shows dedicated to raising money for various foundations, our Lunatic Fringe Artistic Team is continuing to progress itself, the company, and the better of our community.

Just this weekend, our Artistic Team created one of it’s best hair collections yet. Sharing the passion and dedication to the hair dressing craft, our team spent the past four months doing run-through after run-through, perfecting, changing, coloring, cutting, all in preparation for the big day!

The photo collection will then be submitted to NAHA (North American Hairdressing Awards) in hopes to become the Salon Team of the Year 2009! NAHA reigns as the ‘Academy Awards’ of the hair dressing industry for all of North America. Past nominee’s and winners of these awards from Lunatic Fringe have been: Emily Golie, Nikki Coletti, Jake Thompson and Janae Johnson. We hope to add Lunatic Fringe Artistic Team to the list this coming year as well!

Here’s a look of the excitement, hard work, and fun that the Artistic Team had this weekend!

Holiday Hair How-To

The holidays have approached us with an abundance of fabulous parties and events where you want to look your best. You may be accustomed to wearing your hair the same way every day. For holiday parties, you may want to try something a little different. After all, the holidays are a special time of year and you want your holiday hairstyle to be special too. Here are some helpful ideas for holiday hairstyles that’ll really set you apart from the crowd:

Classic Chignon with a Twist

A beautiful loose, lightly-braided, tousled chignon, is a more modern take on the formal classic chignon. You’ll want to begin by prepping the hair with a light working spray. To achieve this look, use a 1 inch or larger curling iron and curl the whole head taking no more than 2 inch sections. Braid some skinny braids off your hair parting and then loosely gather all the hair (including the braids) together at the nape into a low ponytail. Loop the ends until the pony coils back onto itself and pin, into a chignon.

Finish the hairstyle using a light spray with a firm hold that won’t weigh the hair down. The spray provides airy texture to the finished look and keeps it holding all night. The perfect classic up do!
